On the 15th of May, we will screen Al Ard (The Land), the 3rd in the series of Egyptian classics in collaboration with Studio Arabesquo. This special movie screening will kick off with an introductory talk by Moataz Rageb. Following the screening, enjoy an intimate vinyl DJ set by DISCO ARABESQUO.
ABOUT THE MOVIE
“Al-Ard” is an influential Egyptian movie from 1969, directed by the legendary Youssef Chahine. The story takes place during the Egyptian revolution of 1952 and follows the lives of a group of farmworkers in the Nile Delta who revolt against their oppressive landowners.
The movie highlights the social and political unrest in Egypt at the time, as well as the struggle of the working class for justice and equality. It portrays the awakening of collective consciousness among the workers and their determination to fight for their rights, even in the face of violent oppression.
“Al-Ard” is considered one of the most important films in Arab cinema and is praised for its powerful message, cinematography, and compelling acting performances. It is a timeless piece that remains historically and socially relevant.
