The first of the semi-autobiographical trilogy where director Yousef Chahine looks at his life and an ode to his hometown the Egyptian city at the Mediterranean. A movie that merges archival footage of war and hopeful musical performances, showcasing hope among death and destruction. The movie that combined a cast of elite actors and new talent starring Nagla Fathi (Sarah), Farid Shawki (Pasha), Mohsen Mohieddin (Yehia), Ahmed Zaki (Ibrahim), Mahmoud el Meligi ( Qadry), Ezzat el Alaili (Morsi) & Youssef Wahbi.

Living in Alexandria amid the harsh reality of World War II, teenager Yehia retreats into a world of fantasy. Obsessed with Hollywood, he dreams of studying filmmaking in America. However, when he falls in love and discovers the lies of the European occupation, he begins to reevaluate his identity.
